Abruzzo's Adriatic coast is renowned for fantastic seafood, and the local Pecorino variety is the perfect match. Rocco Pasetti, one of the region's winemaking pioneers and an early champion of the variety, together with his son Franco, produce a consistently fine, pure and zesty version.
Production
The Pecorino grapes are sourced from the district of Caparrone, in the hills west of Pescara. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 2 months on lees.
Tasting notes
Appealing aromas of stone fruit with citrus and grapefruit notes. The palate is crisp and zesty with layers of fresh peachy, tropical fruit characters. Lively and approachable, with texture and minerality giving depth, and backed by vibrant acidity.
Food match
Great with a whole roasted turbot, should you ever come across one! Else serve with sea bass.

Meet the Producer
Rocco Pasetti's superbly sited, 50 hectare, estate lies in the heart of the Collecorvino district in the hills northwest of Pescara, recognised as one of the best vineyard zones in Abruzzo.
Surrounding the winery, the south-facing slopes of clay-chalk soils, at around 250m altitude, are ideal for the cultivation of Montepulciano, with Pecorino grown on the lower slopes. The cellar was completed in 2004 - carved into the hillside. Rocco's son, Franco Pasetti, is also a winemaker and now works alongside him at the estate.
The Contesa wines are impeccably-made expressions of Abruzzo's local grapes - modern and easy to drink, yet wines of real substance.
A Note on Sustainability
Contesa is committed to its sustainability programme and practices an integrated crop management system that is certified under the EU-recognised Sistema Di Qualità Nazionale Di Produzione Integrata (SQNPI) scheme.
The winery has also been in conversion to Organic, with much of the portfolio certified Organic from the 2024 vintage.
