Vinification and ageing
Slow ripening and late harvesting (late September to mid-October) are the secrets to obtaining ripe, healthy, concentrated grapes. This also favors the extraction of color and aromas during fermentation and maceration. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the winery in containers. The grapes are destemmed, then placed in stainless steel vats for 15 to 20 days of maceration. Part of the wine is then racked and put into barrels for 8 months.

Who is Gérard Bertrand?
The quest for excellence while respecting biodiversity and biodynamic principles
The birth of a passion for wine and biodynamics
It was in 1975, in the vineyards of Château de Villemajou in the heart of the Corbières region, Gérard Bertrand began harvesting grapes and discovered his passion for wine.
He perfected his apprenticeship for twelve years alongside his father Georges Bertrand.
We are now in the fourth generation of winegrowers, from Paule to Georges, then Gérard Bertrand and finally Emma & Mathias.
Gérard Bertrand is deeply attached to the values of performance and excellence learned on the rugby pitch, and is pursuing his quest to reveal the best terroirs of his region and promote them around the world.
It was in this spirit that he took over the family business at Domaine de Villemajou after the accidental death of his father in 1987. Five years later, he created the Gérard Bertrand wine company to develop a range of wines from the South of France.
In the following years, he bought the Domaine de Cigalus and the Château Laville Bertrou.
